Triple! Motocross Star Ryan Villopoto Grabs Third Straight Supercross Triumph in Texas

Oakley Motocross Star Ryan Villopoto (RV) and Chad Reed have been battling for Main Event superiority, head-to-head, most of the season.

Arlington was no different.

The two speedsters, aiming for an advantage in the overall Championship standings, came out the gates blazing – with Reed near the front of the pack.

But in the second turn, RV powered himself to the lead, leaving the entire field to double track’s first triple. And although Reed was hot on his tail for the first six laps, he fell victim to a heap in the soft sandy section of the course – bowing out with a leg injury.

“The track really broke down out there tonight, and when that happens, you have to be smart and play it safe,” RV said, rocking his Signature Series Oakley MX Goggles. “It’s a bummer for Chad (Reed). I am looking forward to next weekend in Atlanta.”

RV’s Champion Standings lead now extends to 13 points over fellow Oakley star Ryan Dungey (RD), who claimed second in the race.

RD made his late charge in the final lap to overtake Jake Weimer, who then held the second position. And following an aggressive move, the two collided, sending Weimer back to third – and effectively handing the second podium spot to RD.

The 450 Main Event wasn’t the only race, however, to see Oakley riders triumph.

O’s Justin Barcia passed rookie Justin Bogle in Lap 3 of the Supercross Lites Class Main Event – eventually holding off threats and position changes with Darryn Durham in Lap 8. He cruised on from there, taking the first race of the Eastern Regional Supercross Lites Class Championship.
